I’ve got some REALLY cool stuff coming out in the next few weeks, findings that have completely put me on my head. It’s all great and it’s all going to be yours for free.
In the meantime, I want you to know how much I value my community and readers. If you are so inclined, leave a comment on this page and let me know what you want to see. Launch strategies, webinars, app ideas, whatever – I’m down for anything.
Your input will guide what I put out, so please let me know!

What are some of the features that make an app sticky? By sticky, I mean things that make the user want to open the app and use it again? For Zynga games it’s the little alert number when a person your playing against has made their move.
Hey Shibu,
Good question. Stickiness is a great way to increase the lifetime value of a user. I think there are two answers to this question.
The first is that you create a game play that requires long term usage – Tiny Zoo, Farmville, Infinity Blade, etc. Apps (games, in this case) that have tons of levels that are sequential instead of just being 200 Angry Birds scenarios (which are levels with different designs, but are pretty much all independent). Having an app that you get BETTER in is the #1 way to make an app sticky. The psychology of “if I use this more, I will be better/have more fun” is what’s going to get people to come back.
The second is more literal and tactical – push notifications. This is what you see with all those games now that shoot out a pop up that tells you that you have 500 new coins waiting or that your daily bonus is ready. Push notifications will skyrocket your average download usage assuming the notification is for something legit.
A few other ideas are:
– Releasing regular updates
– Collecting email addresses and sending email reminders/newsletters
– Integrate GameCenter/Openfeint/Multiplayer as much as possible to encourage a draw to play with others. If you user isn’t in the mood, they might still open the app if their partner wants to join.
Hope that helps.

I have some apps in the App Store but want to develop and market a slot machine. How do you recommend I proceed? Should I flip it?
Thanks,
Mike
Hey Carter,
BlueCloud looks great! Do you plan to have iMag features in BC?
Thanks!
Kate
Kate –
What do you mean iMag features in BC?

Hi Carter,
Great content on mobile apps, be very helpful and looking forward for more information. You might be interested in featuring your material in our digital magazine on the iPad for the mobile entrepreneur and quest blog posts. Our brand Mobinsider is all about helping the entrepreneur enter the mobile space and find the right fit and then connect with the right expects, vendors and their products.

Carter,
I am new to BC, can you give more insight on Launch Strategies and how to come up with app ideas (it looks like all the ideas are in app store already)
Thanks
Hey Carter,
Congrats on bringing such an awesome and useful website to life. Personally, I think you’ve one of the first people in the market that provides a ton of useful info. on app development so it makes me wonder – are you promoting the heck out of your site and if not, then why not? You could monetize your website traffic because from all the content I’ve seen, it’s seems like you have an incredibly high ‘user engagement/time on website’.
Anyway, what I’d really like to know (or see in future) is if you would maybe put some source code tutorials up (around the topic of game development). They definitely don’t have to be from scratch but more on modifying source code and game/app. templates.
Thanks for all the great stuff.

Hi Carter, how’s it going? 🙂
I’ve been thinking about building my own app for a while now, and have been doing research on all the important elements to consider before I start.
I find your information extremely useful, and wanted to first thank you for taking the time to share your experience on your blog. I’m sure you’ve been told this countless times, but you really are an inspiration!
I see that most of the info you give is around games. My app is a photography app (more specifically, for travel photography), so I wanted to know if you had any specific advice about this category, since it’s much different from games. Do you know of any good source codes I can use? Do you know any good designers/developers in this field?
Cheers,
Fatima
Hi Carter, Going through your material, Looks great.
