Did you know that over 500 million people are using Instagram?
And over 100M people are using the Instagram Stories function every day?
It’s crazy.
What’s also crazy is the amount of traffic some of these accounts can move. Large accounts (100,000+ followers) can easily drive thousands of clicks to different websites every single day.
They can also drive traffic to…apps.
In this video, I explain how you can approach these large Instagram accounts, get your post “promoted” and potentially bring in the biggest ROI you’ve ever seen.
Here’s how it goes down:
- Go on Instagram (on your phone) and search for a keyword your customers are interested in. The more specific your app, the better this will work.
- Make a list of the top 10 accounts within these search results that has their name, size of following and contact information (email address is best).
- Send an email to each of these accounts and ask for a promoted post price sheet
- Select one of the accounts and do a deal with them (image/video, caption, URL in bio)
- Send them all materials
- Launch and measure!
- Repeat to get more data
The next steps are to hire someone to do this over and over with more accounts. You can expect to spend anywhere from $5 to $300 for a post depending on size of following, how long the post will be #1, etc.
You could easily get a few hundred or even thousands of people to go check out your app.
This can work for free AND for paid apps – it really all comes down to how targeted your audience is.
If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can send them to an email opt in page and collect email addresses, then market your app that way.
I would highly encourage everyone to go through the steps above this weekend and at least try it.
In fact, I’m going to do that right now.
See ya!

Instagram is also cool because it allows a precise targeting – if your marketing campaign is live, you should well establish what’s your target group – and it’s possible that they like some specific aesthetics. And via Instagram you can communicate with them flexibly and use it as a powerful brand building tool!
again, thx for the share carter… Knowing instagram promotion for quite some time, but hearing about it again make sense that we should try it out & have analytics to learn from it : )
Hi Carter, what you described in this post is an instagram shoutout and I actually promoted my apps for several years like this. I built out a platform shoutcart.com and documented some of my results in my blog. check it out! 🙂
